Top 3 Coins to Watch Today: XLM, BAT, ICP – August 10 Trading Analysis

Let’s take a closer look at today’s altcoins showing breakout signals. We’ll explain what the coin is, then dive into the trading charts and provide some analysis to help you decide.

1. Stellar (XLM)

Stellar XLM is an open network that allows money to be moved and stored. When it was released, the goal was boosting financial inclusion by reaching the world’s unbanked – but soon after, its priorities shifted to helping financial firms connect with one another via blockchain technology. The network’s native token, lumens, serves as a bridge that makes it less expensive to trade assets across borders. All of this aims to challenge existing payment providers who often charge high fees for a similar service.

XLM Price Analysis

At the time of writing, XLM is ranked the 27th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.1225. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

XLM set a high near $0.2457 in Q2 before retracing nearly 80% to find a low near $0.1038. The price consolidated around this level before the strong bullish impulse over the past several days.

Probable resistance near $0.1320 is slowing the bullish advance down. However, another leg may target the last swing high at $0.1426 and relatively equal highs at $0.1530. Resistance near $0.1659 could cap the move before the second swing high. Beyond these levels, little stands in the bulls’ way before reaching the swing high near $0.1846.

A retracement before a move higher might find support in the daily gap near $0.1204, just above the weekly open. Relatively equal lows near $0.1135 could also provide support. Run-on stops at $0.1064 and $0.09574 may find support in the gap beginning near $0.08912.

Basic Attention Token BAT is the token that powers a new blockchain-based digital advertising platform designed to fairly reward users for their attention while providing advertisers with a better return on their ad spend. The Basic Attention Token itself is the unit of reward in this advertising ecosystem and is exchanged between advertisers, publishers and users. Advertisers pay for their advertising campaigns in BAT tokens. Out of this budget, a small portion is distributed to advertisers, while 70% is distributed to users – whereas the intermediaries that typically drive up advertising costs are cut out of the equation to improve cost-efficiency.

At the time of writing, BAT is ranked the 67th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.4518. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

BAT has dropped nearly 75% from its Q2 2022 high and 89% from its November 2021 all-time high.

Support might have formed last week from $0.3734 to $0.4065 and should hold if bulls are ready for a bounce. This zone overlaps with an inefficiently traded area on the weekly chart from $0.3653 to $0.3394.

If this level breaks, bears may target an inefficiently traded area on the monthly chart from $0.3147 to $0.3032. Below this level, $0.2845 to $0.2780 could provide support after a run on bulls’ stops under the Q4 2020 lows into an area of significant accumulation.

The closest resistance begins near $0.4983. This level has confluence with the 9 EMA and a brief consolidation before May 11’s spike downward.

A more significant rally might find resistance near $0.5540. This level is inefficiently traded and has confluence with the lows of last summer’s accumulation and the 18 EMA.

If the market becomes more bullish, $0.6245 may provide the next resistance. This level is slightly above the May monthly open, overlaps with multiple old lows, and aligns with the 40 EMA.

3. Internet Computer (ICP)

The Internet Computer ICP is the world’s first blockchain that runs at web speed with unbounded capacity. It also represents the third major blockchain innovation, alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. The Internet Computer scales smart contract computation and data, runs them at web speed, processes and stores data efficiently, and provides powerful software frameworks to developers. By making this possible, it enables the complete re-imagination of software, providing a revolutionary new way to build tokenised internet services, pan-industry platforms, decentralised financial systems, and even traditional enterprise systems and websites.

ICP Price Analysis

At the time of writing, ICP is ranked the 35th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$7.83. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

ICP has dropped 60% from its most recent Q2 high as it continues its nine-month downtrend. The edge of the recent swing’s lower candle bodies could provide the closest support, near $6.42. This level overlaps with the 100% extension of June’s opening rally.

Currently, the price is testing possible resistance near $8.20. This level has confluence with the 9 EMA. It is unclear if it will hold as resistance, but it’s reasonable to anticipate a run above bears’ stops at $8.75.

If the price breaks through this resistance, it may find its next resistance near $8.97. This level is near the midpoint of May 12’s swing low and the midpoint of an inefficiently traded area on the weekly chart.

A rally this high may reach slightly higher, near $9.15. This area formed the base of the June opening rally, shows inefficient trading on the daily chart, and is at the low end of May’s accumulation range.

Below, there is no historical price action to suggest possible support. The next downside targets may be near $6.70 and $5.92. These approximate levels are near the 150% and 200% extensions of June’s opening rally.

Top 3 Coins to Watch Today: BAT, ORN, ZIL – June 27 Trading Analysis

Let’s take a closer look at today’s altcoins showing breakout signals. We’ll explain what the coin is, then dive into the trading charts and provide some analysis to help you decide.

At the time of writing, BAT is ranked the 68th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.4032. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

BAT has dropped nearly 70% from its Q2 2022 high and 82% from its November 2021 all-time high.

Support might have formed last week from $0.3834 to $0.3565 and should hold if bulls are ready for a bounce. This zone overlaps with an inefficiently traded area on the weekly chart from $0.3763 to $0.3294.

If this level breaks, bears might target an inefficiently traded area on the monthly chart from $0.3047 to $0.2732. Below this level, $0.2545 to $0.2380 could provide support after a run on bulls’ stops under the Q4 2020 lows into an area of significant accumulation.

The closest resistance begins near $0.4583. This level has confluence with the 9 EMA and a brief consolidation before May 11’s spike downward.

A more significant rally might find resistance near $0.5140. This level is inefficiently traded and has confluence with the lows of last summer’s accumulation and the 18 EMA.

If the market becomes more bullish, $0.6146 may provide the next resistance. This level is slightly above the May monthly open, overlaps with multiple old lows and aligns with the 40 EMA.

2. Orion Protocol (ORN)

Orion ORN aims to solve the difficulties in performing profitable transactions associated with the lack of liquidity on the majority of crypto exchanges. This is the case for both centralised and decentralised exchanges. Orion’s solution to this is to aggregate exchanges’ order books into one simple-to-use-and-understand terminal. The Orion Protocol’s goal is to help users get the best returns out of their investments while also lowering the risks associated with using multiple exchanges.

ORN Price Analysis

At the time of writing, ORN is ranked the 397th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$1.30. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

After a 75% retracement from its April highs, ORN found a temporary low near $1.20. A recent move above $1.49 could be the first sign of a bullish shift – but could also signal a stop run before the next drop lower.

If the market adopts a more bullish tone, the price could run through the most recent swing high. If this bounce occurs, it would likely find some resistance near $1.63, possibly reaching up to $1.85.

However, a move below the closest support near $1.25 makes stop runs on the swing lows near $1.21 and $1.18 likely. A confluence of several levels near $1.16 could provide a temporary bounce. Still, a sustained bearish market will likely target $1.12 and even $1.00.

3. Zilliqa (ZIL)

Zilliqa ZIL is a public, permissionless blockchain designed to offer high throughput with the ability to complete thousands of transactions per second. It seeks to solve the issue of blockchain scalability and speed by employing sharding as a second-layer scaling solution. The platform is home to many decentralised applications, and it also allows for staking and yield farming. The native utility token of Zilliqa, ZIL, is used to process transactions on the network and execute smart contracts.

ZIL Price Analysis

At the time of writing, ZIL is ranked the 67th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.04687. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

ZIL‘s 85% drop found a low near $0.03368 before closing over a weekly high around $0.04682. This daily close over the high could signal a shift in market structure that might reach probable resistance near $0.06032.

A sustained bullish move may target the swing high at $0.05860. If this stop run occurs, a run beyond the high into probable resistance near $0.06384 and $0.06645 is possible.

Bulls could buy a retracement to possible support near $0.04258, just above the weekly open. A bearish turn in the marketplace may propel the price toward possible support near $0.03926.

However, relatively equal lows near $0.03714 and $0.03524 provide an attractive target for bears if the market resumes its bearish trend. A run on these lows might find support between $0.03315 and $0.03069.

Brave Browser Update Expands Web3 Access to Solana

Privacy-focused browser Brave has partnered with Solana to facilitate Web3 for crypto newbies while also providing a robust suite of Web3 tools for advanced users.

Added Support for dApps

In what Brave describes as its first steps toward full integration with the Solana ecosystem, it will also offer support for Solana’s decentralised applications (dApps), allowing them to run natively within the browser.

Integration to be Completed by July

Addressing the Breakpoint conference in Lisbon, Portugal earlier this week, Brave CEO and co-founder Brendan Eich said the browser’s default support for Solana would help provide fast and affordable Web3 access and thus “pave the way for the next billion crypto users”, adding that he expected the integration process to be completed by the end of June.

The partnership brings the Solana blockchain to Brave’s 42 million monthly active users and 1.3 million verified creators. In return, Solana will implement Themis, a privacy-by-design advertising protocol considered a key milestone in the BAT 2.0 roadmap.

The BAT token powers Brave’s advertising ecosystem by allowing advertisers to purchase ad space. Last year, Brave launched its Brave Wallet, incorporating a rewards program that allows users to recoup 20 percent of their swap fees.

Over the past week, the Solana (SOL) token became the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, overtaking Cardano and stablecoin provider Tether.

Top 3 Coins to Watch Today: BAT, EOS, UBT – May 17 Trading Analysis

Let’s take a closer look at today’s altcoins showing breakout signals. We’ll explain what the coin is, then dive into the trading charts and provide some analysis to help you decide.

At the time of writing, BAT is ranked the 80th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.3963. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

BAT has dropped nearly 69% from its April 2022 high and 84% from its November 2021 all-time high.

Support might have formed last week from $0.3934 to $0.3665 and should hold if bulls are ready for a bounce. This zone overlaps with an inefficiently traded area on the weekly chart from $0.3863 to $0.3394.

If this level breaks, bears might target an inefficiently traded area on the monthly chart from $0.2907 to $0.2632. Below this level, $0.1745 to $0.1580 could provide support after a run on bulls’ stops under the Q4 2020 lows into an area of significant accumulation.

The closest resistance begins near $0.4283. This level has confluence with the 9 EMA and a brief consolidation before May 11’s spike downward.

A more significant rally might find resistance near $0.4940. This level is inefficiently traded and has confluence with the lows of last summer’s accumulation and the 18 EMA.

If the market becomes more bullish, $0.5946 may provide the next resistance. This level is slightly above the May monthly open, overlaps with multiple old lows and aligns with the 40 EMA.

2. Eos (EOS)

EOS is a platform designed to allow developers to build decentralised apps. The project’s goal is relatively simple: to make it as straightforward as possible for programmers to embrace blockchain technology and ensure the network is easier to use than rivals. As a result, tools and a range of educational resources are provided to support developers who want to build functional apps quickly. EOS also aims to improve the experience for users and businesses. While the project tries to deliver greater security and less friction for consumers, it also vies to unlock flexibility and compliance for enterprises.

EOS Price Analysis

At the time of writing, EOS is ranked the 46th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$1.33. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

EOS has plummeted nearly 66% from its March 2022 high and almost 93% from its May 2021 all-time high.

The closest resistance overlaps with the 8 EMA near $1.4544, where the daily chart shows inefficient trading. This level rejected the price’s first retest on May 13.

Slightly higher, $1.8152 offers the next noteworthy resistance. This area was inefficiently traded and overlaps with the last significant swing low in mid-March.

Last week, the price bounced from support near $1.1856, which could provide support again. This level shows inefficient trading on the monthly chart and is near the midpoint of September 2017’s accumulation.

If this support breaks, bulls could find support near $0.7229. This level is at the bottom of an inefficiently traded area on the monthly and weekly charts. It’s also the high point of October 2017’s accumulation range. However, eager bidders should be cautious as a move this low may be targeting bulls’ stops under the swing low at $0.4760.

3. Unibright (UBT)

Unibright UBT is a member company of SPO Consulting GmbH, which was founded in 1989. The cloud-based integration platform was released in 2011, while the cross-blockchain and cross-system business process integration of Unibright was launched in 2016.

Unibright’s unified framework has the goal of bringing blockchain technology and contracts to mainstream users. Unibright offers enterprise-level blockchain solutions, integration platforms, and an ecosystem centred on tokenised assets.

UBT Price Analysis

At the time of writing, UBT is ranked the 377th cryptocurrency globally and the current price is US$0.3877. Let’s take a look at the chart below for price analysis:

Source: TradingView

UBT has dropped nearly 89% since its March 2022 high and 95% since its September 2021 high.

The price is currently testing probable resistance near $0.4029, which marks the upper half of last week’s rally before the last run downward and may soon overlap with the 18 EMA.

Just above, $0.4842 may also provide resistance. Sweeping this high would remove bears who trailed their stops too aggressively. It also overlaps with the lower half of early May’s consolidation.

Support may have formed near the recent swing low candle’s high near $0.3592, which should hold during a retest if the price is to rally further. This possible support formed after the price ran bulls’ stops under significant lows near $0.2361.

Further possible support below this level becomes difficult to determine due to a lack of precise historical price action data. Some charts suggest that an area near $0.18378 could be the next bearish target and possible support. Inefficient trading might have occurred here.

If this level breaks, the stops and inefficiently traded area under the significant swing low around $0.07358 may be the next target for bears and offers potential support for bulls.

TradeRoom: Our Weekly Crypto Trades Analysis – Mar 28, 2022

Welcome to this weekly series from the TradeRoom. My name is Dave and I’m the founder of The Crypto Den, an Australian-based crypto trading and education community aiming to give you the knowledge to take your trading game to the next level.

Crypto Market Outlook

Finally, after two months of a choppy sideways market, we have movement! The TOTAL cap and BTC have chosen the 30% chance of an upside breakout with the TOTAL sitting just above US$2 trillion. This is the first solid change in market structure we’ve seen in months, and we’re now above the daily 200 EMA. Still some work to do, though! Let’s take a closer look.

TOTAL market cap

For a BTC long trade, I’ll be waiting for a pullback to enter. What I want to see here is a confirmed and clear S&R flip. What I’m cautious of is a bull trap (something like the white arrow line happening), which is why we wait for confirmation. A test on support followed by some positive candlestick analysis and maintaining price action above that 200 EMA on the daily will support this. This is what SAFE traders do. We don’t just ape into a pump and hope for moon.

BTC/USDT

If this push fails, you can see I have a game plan ready either way and this will also be the case for any ALT trades.

This Week’s Trades

CHZ/USDT

Currently being held up on the daily 200 EMA, I see opportunity for CHZ to pull back and confirm an S&R flip for a long entry. Again, a positive change in market structure is great – we just need that first confirmation.

BAT/USDT

BAT has broken out of a four-month downtrend and tested it positively with a nice bounce. If BTC price action continues, BAT could see a decent 50% pump. Like all coins at the moment, there are still some walls to push through but the risk to reward ratio (R:R) on this trade looks good. I’d expect this to play well with a big green candle above US$1.00.

BAT/USDT

MIR/USDT

Quite an aggressive trade getting in long here before a breakout, but the R:R is pretty good. MIR is lagging behind the pack and a 50% pump isn’t out of the question.

MIR/USDT

LRC/USDT

LRC is forming a bullish pennant right on the 100 and 200 daily EMA, as well as daily resistance. A breakout here and there’s potential for 70%! If you look left, you can see LRC did 70% over only four days back in November 2021.

LRC/USDT

Opera Releases Web 3.0 Browser Dedicated to Crypto, a Challenger to Brave?

Opera, the Norwegian-based company behind the popular so-named internet browser, has launched a beta version of its Crypto Browser Project. Featuring built-in Web3 integrations and designed to facilitate users’ experience of browsing decentralised apps (DApps), games and metaverse platforms, the beta browser also offers a built-in non-custodial wallet, now available to Windows, Android, and Mac users.

Opera Targets the ‘Crypto-Native’ and ‘Crypto-Curious’

According to a January 18 press release, the beta browser targets both “the crypto-native and the crypto-curious”, with Opera’s own crypto wallet at the core of its users’ experience. As it stands, the Opera browser features a no-login VPN (virtual private network) and native ad tracker blocker to help secure it. The current wallet is also exclusively compatible with Ethereum, but the company plans to roll out Polygon and Solana compatibility with a “big layer 2 announcement” coming in February.

The main feature of the new browser is that users can switch between apps without having to sign into their wallets for every new tab, which will work for any app that has an Opera wallet integration.

Jorgen Arnesen, vice-president of Web3 at Opera, explained the ultimate goal of the project is to help Web3 and crypto become more mainstream:

Opera’s Crypto Browser Project promises a simpler, faster, more private Web3 experience for users. It simplifies Web3 user experience that is often bewildering for mainstream users. Opera believes Web3 has to be easy to use for the decentralized web to reach its full potential.

Jorgen Arnesen, vice-president of Web3, Opera

Opera Picks a Battle with Brave

Opera, with a host of new features, hopes to expose its 350 million users to the magical world of crypto but is not the only one of its kind looking to take advantage of the interest in Web3. Privacy browser Brave recently launched a new Brave wallet and is including a Brave Swap Rewards program that will allow users to recoup 20 percent of their swap fees as an added incentive to the initiative.

Brave, in a further effort to expand its crypto reach, launched its new self-custody crypto wallet built into its browser application last November. The wallet will enable Brave users to store and buy cryptos, store NFTs, and make use of DeFi.

Brave Launches Built-In Crypto Wallet to Tackle Fake Extensions

The privacy-centric browser Brave has launched its new self-custody crypto wallet built into its desktop browser application, enabling users to store and buy cryptocurrencies, make use of DeFi, and store NFTs.

According to an announcement from Brave, its new browser wallet has a host of crypto-focused functionalities. One of the main reasons for the creation of the wallet is to counter fake and risky browser extensions that people use as crypto wallets.

Fighting Fake Extensions

While countless crypto wallet options exist (hardware wallets and software wallets), most are browser extensions. These extensions have inherent security risks, are more susceptible to phishing and asset theft, and require extra background processes to run, possibly creating performance issues on users’ devices.

One of the biggest problems with extensions is how easy it is for criminals to make fake ones pretending to be a good wallet extension – such spoofing attacks are quite common.

Brian Bondy, CTO and co-founder, Brave

According to Brave’s chief training officer, the new implementation was “built from scratch, natively into the Brave browser”. It’s different from other Web 3.0 wallets such as MetaMask in that it does not require users to download an extension, but is rather built directly into the browser as a core feature. According to the firm, this is also meant to reduce security risks and reliance on extra CPU and memory.

One of the hurdles is the crypto wallet industry’s reliance on extensions, which introduces friction for DApp adoption and often leads to users losing funds via fake extension phishing scams […] The Brave Wallet requires no extensions and is instead browser-native, removing key performance and security concerns while preserving the core features of popular crypto wallets.

Brian Bondy, CTO and co-founder, Brave

Bondy says the browser’s cryptocurrency wallet is similar to hardware crypto wallets as it implements its own BIP32 hierarchical deterministic wallet, meaning “the funds are always stored on the blockchain, but the keys to unlock those funds are stored in the Brave Wallet”.

The Brave Wallet will soon be available on Brave’s mobile app and by 2022, the wallet will integrate the Solana blockchain, making Solana (SOL) the default provider for DApp support. Initially, Brave provided in-browser crypto swaps and had an established DEX, but has now moved to create the infrastructure in the wallet.

The wallet will allow users to transact in “almost any crypto asset”, supporting all chains compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), including Polygon, xDai, Avalanche and others.

What Users Can Do with the Wallet

Research has found that the number of global crypto users has more than doubled in the first half of this year, from a little over 100 million at the start of 2021 to 221 million in June. It’s estimated that currently 13 percent of Americans invest in crypto, and with numbers on the rise users need safe and trustworthy technology to work with their digital assets.

The crypto-friendly browser has gained major popularity due to its privacy-centred design and the way it approaches ads by rewarding users in Basic Attention Token (BAT), its own native cryptocurrency, for viewing privacy-protecting ads. However, the new wallet differs in that it is not connected to Brave Rewards. Here is a list of the Brave wallet functionalities:

  • see live and historical market graphs (price data powered by CoinGecko);
  • find best price match against a list of providers with built-in swap functionality;
  • send and receive assets;
  • buy with fiat via Wyre;
  • interact with DApps for any EVM compatible network;
  • manage portfolio with NFT and multi-chain support;
  • easily import wallet from MetaMask and other self-custody wallets, or Brave’s legacy Crypto Wallets extension, or hardware wallets such as Trezor and Ledger (no Ledger Live required); and
  • send and receive NFTs.

Brave Launches In-Browser Crypto Swaps with 20% BAT Rebates

Privacy browser Brave is to launch a new Brave Wallet and is including a Brave Swap Rewards program that will allow users to recoup 20 percent of their swap fees.

The release of the new unified Brave Wallet for desktop and mobile will allow millions of users access to web3, new Brave Rewards, and emerging financial protocols.

The browser, which claims to be three times faster than Chrome and now has over 36.2 million monthly active users, features security and privacy measures such as in-built ad blocking, password manager, and private windows. Users can earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) rewards by watching privacy-respecting advertisements and online content creators can earn BAT with Brave Rewards by publishing content online.

With Brave Rewards integrated into the Brave Wallet, users will be able to modify their Rewards experience, gain access to previous months’ statements, and view their earned and contributed BAT for the current month.

A demonstration video published by Brave provides a swap overview:

Understanding the Brave Swap Rewards Program

Brave receives a small percentage of each Brave Swap as a fee for providing the service, like MetaMask and other decentralised exchange aggregators (DEX) swap providers. As part of the program, Brave will allocate up to 20 percent of total Brave Swap fees every month to the Swap Rewards program.

Taking part in the Brave Rewards Program enables Brave Ads by default, which then gives users the opportunity to earn additional BAT while using the browser.

Distributing the Rewards

Members of Swap Rewards who have not yet verified their Rewards wallet with a partner wallet service such as Gemini will be able to claim virtual BAT for their monthly Swap Rewards that they will be able to use within the Brave Rewards ecosystem.

Users who have verified their Reward wallets will receive their rebates as direct deposits into their verified Rewards wallets. Those who participate in the program earn BAT via the Rewards private ads system and the Swap Rewards rebate, which essentially reduces swap fees.

Powered by 0x DEX Liquidity

0x API has announced it will be officially powering Brave Swap, the Brave browser-based DEX. Brave is planning to build a decentralised exchange aggregator (DEX) that will allow users to swap tokens at the best market prices from within their Brave crypto wallet.

Brave Search Engine Launches to the Public: Fully Private, Anonymous, and Transparent

Brave, the company behind the popular privacy-focused web browser, has launched a public beta of its own search engine, Brave Search. The search engine promises to be fully private, anonymous, and transparent.

The Brave browser, first released in 2016, now has over 32 million active users per month and has become a popular choice for those who value privacy above everything else. Supporters of the Brave browser are excited by the release of the new search engine beta, which will become the default search engine in the browser later in the year.

The Brave New World

The Brave browser features privacy and security features such as in-built ad blocking, private windows, and password manager. The team also claims it is three times faster than Chrome out of the box. But perhaps its most innovative feature is the ability for users to earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) by viewing privacy-respecting ads. At this time, it is not clear whether using Brave Search will reward users with BAT.

Brave Search will also feature an independent index of the internet, which is a bold (or brave, if you will) move considering most new search engines merely repackage results from Google and Bing.

Comparison between Brave search and other popular search engines.

The Underdog vs Big Tech

Google has a monopoly when it comes to web browser and search engine market share. Currently, over 90% of searches go through Google. Not even Microsoft’s Bing has been able to make any meaningful inroads in the search domain, with just above 2% market share. It would be an ambitious task indeed if the Brave team were trying to overthrow the king, but it seems it is simply trying to present an appealing, private alternative to the big tech company.

Brave Team Keeping Busy

It appears that the Brave team has been very busy this year. It has also been building a Decentralised Exchange, which will feature benefits for BAT holders, such as discounts on transactions. Now could be a good time to be bullish on Brave.

Sam’s Crypto HODL List – May 2021

Following on from my article about 5 Crypto Coins That Could Have a Great 2021, I’ve had a lot of questions lately about what cryptos I like at the moment. So here is the shortlist, and the reasons why I like them.

Disclaimer: Before you continue reading, please note that I am not a financial advisor, nor do not recommend you buy any of these cryptos mentioned below. I also change my positions constantly and may or may not be holding these coins. This is just a list of those coins which I like at the moment and providing some commentary for educational purposes only to help people learn about these exciting projects. For the latest coin prices see the cryptos page.

Bitcoin

BTC / Rank #1 / Price A$51,000

BTC is the first cryptocurrency and the godfather driving the market. Over the years, I’ve learned that it is foolish not to have some BTC in the portfolio, because it tends to act independently to the other cryptocurrencies. What percentage of BTC of the total portfolio is totally up to you, something around 50% is not unusual to see.

With its inelastic supply and growing demand, it’s hard not to see continued upside as it averages around 200% per year over the past 10 years. We’re also seeing lots of institutional money flowing into BTC as big companies add BTC to their balance sheets as a “hedge” and “store of value”.

I would also say that there is also speculation that BTC may eventually replace the US Dollar and become unit of account for the worldwide economy. Could we be comparing the price of goods in Satoshi’s in future years to come?

Ethereum

ETH / Rank #2 / Price A$3,800

While Bitcoin is seen as a “store of value”, Ethereum is powering the new crypto economy. Bitcoin currently has scaling and environmental issues while Ethereum is quickly evolving to address those issues.

As a computer programmer myself, as soon as I heard “Ethereum is programmable money”, my eyes opened wide and I saw the potential of cryptocurrencies for the future of the economy.

Ethereum has some very promising use cases especially with Decentralised Finance (DeFi), Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs), and Decentralised Exchanges (DEXs).

Compared to Bitcoin’s 200% average return per year, Ethereum has averaged 400% per year so far and is on target to outperform BTC once again this year.

Binance Coin

BNB / Rank #3 / Price A$550

Binance has evolved into a worldwide cryptocurrency exchange juggernaut since it started in 2017. At the moment, it is the easiest and best place to do your crypto trading. Before it came along, other platforms were terrible and hard to use with high fees.

They are also starting to expand their services into other markets such as DeFi with Binance Smart Chain, crypto loans, and crypto debit cards coming to Australia later this year.

It’s crazy to think that BNB was only $2 back in 2018 and now it is over $600. I can only see upside for Binance as their ecosystem expands rapidly as they buy up big companies such as CoinMarketCap and are set to Acquire 20-30 Crypto Startups Yearly.

Chiliz Coin

CHZ / Rank #59 / Price A$0.48

Chilliz launched in 2020 to power the new sports fan token economy. These tokens act like a royalty program for fans and also can provide other benefits such as voting, connecting fans directly with clubs and players.

Since launching, CHZ has already increased over 7,000% in price and I can only see more upside for the project. My research into this coin revealed that there are currently no major competitors in the space. Their business model also looks quite clever, as they list new tokens (like in the case of UFC) on pre-sale, then the coin is actually added once the partnership is officially approved.

As clubs see the potential to raise funds through this new revenue stream, they will launch their tokens and form partnerships with Chilliz and Socios as a way to not only raise funds but engage with their fans. We’ve already seen big football clubs join such as Manchester City, Barcelona, Juventus and other sports such as UFC and Formula 1.

Chainlink

LINK / Rank #13 / Price A$47

Chainlink is a project that connects real-world data with blockchain data. As a computer programmer, I can see the power of this technology and the need for timely, accurate, and trusted data.

Moving forward I can see a huge demand to sync the real world and the virtual world. This could be something simple like a weather forecast, or more complicated like tokenized partial ownership of real estate.

Together with this and its exceptionally regarded oracles that manage the security and integrity of the network it can only be a very strong “middleman” for the further advancements of blockchain and decentralized finance.

Basic Attention Token

BAT / Rank #72 / Price A$1.26

Basic Attention Token is a decentralized platform built on Ethereum. It rewards you for your attention, if you see an ad, you get paid in BAT through the Brave Browser.

The utility of rewarding people for their attention is quite a powerful concept, especially if you are shown the ads your interested in.

The project is currently advancing by developing a DEX (decentralized exchange) which should add tremendous value to the project’s already 3 million monthly users.

Theta

THETA / Rank #20 / Price A$11

Theta is one of the leading projects that is providing decentraliszed bandwidth through peer-to-peer networking. Other features of Theta include Decentralised Video Streaming, Staking, Theta TFUEL, Guardian Nodes, CDNs, Voting, and more.

As more adoption comes to cryptocurrencies and blockchain, one would assume we will need more bandwidth to support scaling worldwide. Theta software was also included in the new Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones to assist with video streaming and rewarding watchers with TFUEL tokens.

The hypothesis is that as crypto usage grows, then Theta adoption should grow with it.

Cardano

ADA / Rank #6 / Price A$2.26

Cardano is a decentralized blockchain platform, similar to Ethereum. It’s already a proof-of-stake platform which is more environmentally friendly and has implemented further unique scaling technology.

The project has recently impressed with their global inprovement initiatives such as Bringing Sustainable Internet Connectivity to users in Africa and 5 Million Students In Ethiopia Set To Get National Identity Solution. This might suggest it has a bright future in improving the world with the use of blockchain technology.

Qtum

QTUM / Rank #66 / Price A$20

The QTUM project is a decentralized platform and blockchain similar to Ethereum. Its purpose is not to compete with Bitcoin and Ethereum, but to bridge the gap between them helping scale transactions at low cost.

The project is heavily committed to DeFi and supporting DeFi projects offering $1 million dollars in rewards to developers who build applications using the Qtum blockchain.

Personally, I think Decentralised Finance (DeFi) is going to be a huge disrupt to how we currently do finance worldwide. Frameworks like Ethereum and Qtum, which support DeFi projects can only have an upside in the future as they contribute to the rise of DeFi.

Ripple (XRP)

XRP / Rank #7 / Price A$1.84

Ripple (XRP) is a cryptocurrency platform and blockchain similar to Ethereum. The project is attempting to become the facilitator for global payments between financial institutions.

XRP has had both good and bad press over the years. Initially, the sentiment was very bullish due to the rumors that banks may use it for liquidity and large global transactions. However, since then, it has been involved in lawsuits lessening its appeal.

Recently they announced plans for Ripple To Go Public After Lawsuit Settlement which has shed some light that there may be some potential for a comeback in sentiment. After running crypto news for the past few years I’ve seen that the 2 most popular coins in Australia are DOGE and XRP.

Dogecoin

DOGE / Rank #5 / Price A$0.53

Dogecoin (DOGE) started as a joke when a developer cloned Bitcoin’s code and stuck a dog meme as the logo, back in 2013. Since then it has gained tremendous popularity and it seems you can’t go a single day without seeing that cheeky dog face.

I generally don’t invest in “jokecoins”, also referred to as “shitcoins” that have little to no utility. However, DOGE is an exception, due to its strong social appeal. Its “meme value” is so high within the crypto community and this provides free marketing for the coin.

Back in 2017, I underestimated the power of social media when DOGE was only $0.00023, and this year it almost reached $1 earlier this year – that’s over 400,000% gain in just 3-4 years.

As the crypto market grows and more people join in the frenzy, DOGE could be the one they buy as a speculation. However, I think it will only end badly for those people buying DOGE at all-time high prices, when the market turns, the shitcoins could drop to nothing, only the quality projects will survive long term.

Conclusions

It’s crazy how back in 2016 the prices were so low compared to now. I wonder if we will be shocked again in another 4-5 years from now…
